It’s still 90 freaking degrees out, but that won’t stop this pumpkin party! It’s September, and for me, that’s go time! I don’t go crazy overboard with my decorations, but I do get excited and I do put them out as soon as September begins. When I originally fell in love with our home, one of the things I wanted was this big front porch. I could envision decorating it each season and spending time on it, talking and laughing with those I love. It’s truly a joy for me!
Some of the things that are in the pictures that I didn’t talk about in the video are the mums you see in the picture – they are fake. I LOVE mums, but for the life of me I cannot remember to water flowers. So I bought fake ones. It works out though, because then I can keep them completely out of the sun and they don’t care! If you want to make a similar project, get a flower pot and then go to the craft store. Buy styrofoam that will fit your pot and insert it (it’s best if it’s a few inches thick – too thin and it won’t be as sturdy). Then choose your flowers and push them into the styrofoam! The only thing I’ve purchased recently is the “Gather” pillow on the rocking chair (rocking chair from Cracker Barrel). I bought that pillow a couple of days ago at JoAnn Fabrics, Etc.
Here’s my video where I discuss my decorations, and below that you will find my pictures! Click on them to enlarge. Happy Fall!!!
As the cool weather begins to subside – finally! – as is typical for me, I start getting giddy about outdoor things. Like making my yard look cute, planting flowers and plants, and dressing up our outdoor living areas, namely, our porches. It’s so easy to give your porch a whole new look without spending a ton of money. We already had a table and a couple of chairs out there, so I added a few little decorations.
The first thing I did was to remove an old rug that was out there. It looked really dirty and dingy, and I decided that I’d rather just see the wood. The next thing I did was spend a few bucks on these items:
I picked this lantern up at TJ Maxx. That candle was in my FabFitFun Box!
Then I went to Ragon House and got this sign ($6.00) and the lanterns, ($16 and $14):
I threw a couple of throw pillows out there, and – voila!
My point is this, you don’t need to spend a bunch of money to improve your space! I already had the lantern, candle and pillows. I just moved them out to the porch. And the sign and lanterns cost around $30 total! If you don’t have the money to redo, then just renew! Move some of your items around to different rooms to get a whole new feel from the things you already own. And a little paint goes a LONG way. I have transformed chairs, lamps and furniture with a can of spray paint (super cheap!) or a gallon of paint! It’s Spring, so if you’re feeling like a fresh start, get creative!
Hey guys! This is the first in my Our Home series, where I show you before and after videos and pictures of rooms in our home that we have redone! We do all of the work ourselves and it’s such a joy!
Here are some “before” pictures, watch the video for the “after” video and to hear why we chose the things we did!
Hey all! I have been decorating for fall and typically I put fall mums outside of our home. Unfortunately, I always forget to water them, and eventually they die. I thought that perhaps in order to save future mums from certain death, I’d try my hand at a crafty little faux flower arrangement. I’ve never worked with faux flowers before, and it was fun – and I’m happy with the turnout!
I made this little video showing the process. Sorry, the sound isn’t great because I was outside.
